Consume by French artist Hubert Mardi lies between realism and abstraction through a built-up composition of everyday moments and motifs. Three abstracted windows in white appear through the beige backdrop, layers of acrylic paint removed through engraving techniques to reveal several motifs – a seated figure, a strand of grass, a ceramic pot. These slices of familiarity sit within the hand-drawn windows, with layers of varnish adding texture and depth to the painted surfaces.
